“Running to the water with my fishing rod in hand”

Written by: Danny

This Labour Day weekend my wife and I wanted to get away from the crowded lakes and away from all the people. So we packed up the truck with the axe, camping chairs, the Smokey’s, the fishing rods and hit the back roads. It’s amazing what a little bit of fresh mountain air can do for the soul.

I spend most of my weekends on our boat exploring the waters tracking down fish with electronics and every tool in the tackle box. This weekend it was all about simplicity and finding that magical experience of angling. One of my greatest memories as a child was getting off the school bus, grabbing my fishing rod and running through the field to the river. I couldn’t wait to flip that bale and throw the line in the water in hopes to catch the big one! This is the magical experience that most of us Anglers lose in the competitiveness of the sport.

My wife and I explored the back roads this weekend hitting each little lake that we came across. As we pulled up to the lakes I would jump out of the truck with my fishing rod and run down to the shore line. Flip my bale and cast out to the waters! I looked back to see my wife laughing at me, she said you are like a kid today! Wow! At this point I realized that I have rediscovered that magical feeling that fishing once gave me as a young boy.

I challenge every angler to reignite their passion by becoming in touch with that magical experience that once hooked them on fishing. Leave all the electronics at home, get out of the boat and bring the basics, bobber and bait or fly rod and a few flies. Find a fishing hole that is new to you, flip the bale and cast out to catch that inner kid again!

Tight lines!
